The Charminar (literal meaning “four minarets”) is constructed in 1591. It is a monument and mosque located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

Brief History
The landmark is globally as a symbol of Hyderabad and is listed among the most recognized structures in India. The Hyderabad which is now known as IT Hub of India is recognised by Charminar. The Charminar’s long history includes the existence of a mosque on its top floor for nearly more than 400 years.
The Charminar is constructed at the intersection of the historical trade route that connects the markets of Golkonda with the port city of Machilipatnam at the time. The Old City of Hyderabad is designed with Charminar as its centerpiece. The city is spread around the Charminar in four different quadrants and chambers, segregated according to the established settlements. Towards the north of Charminar is the Char Kaman, or four gateways, constructed in the cardinal direction
While both historically and religiously significant, it is also known for its popular and busy local markets surrounding the structure, and has become one of the most frequented tourist attractions in Hyderabad.
Charminar is also a site of numerous festival celebrations such as Ramjan, Eid-ul-adha and Eid-ul-fitr.
The Charminar is situated on the east bank of Musi river. To the west lies the Laad Bazaar, and to the southwest lies the richly ornamented granite Makkah Masjid. It is listed as an archaeological and architectural treasure on the official “List of Monuments” prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India. The English name is a translation and combination of the Urdu words chār and minar or meenar, translating to “Four Pillars”; the eponymous towers are ornate minarets attached and supported by four grand arches.

If you want to indulge in the real experience of shopping in Hyderabad, take a trip down to Old City aka to Charminar. The crowds are manifold with more shops lining the streets and wares displayed for your convenience. Shopping here might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Bargaining is main thing to get price right here 🙂
Its especially festive during the month of Ramzan, when amidst the regular hustle and bustle that’s the trademark of this area, the night market has a character of its own.
Bangles
They are colourful, cute and blingy. First remember that the bangles here can put the other bangles to shame. Bangles from charminar are famous in Hyderabad. Put up a good bargain and you say viola! You’re now the proud owner of some glittering delights.
Baubles
You will find jhumkas, faux kundan, polki and other designs. . And normally what you get here is at par with what’s available at high-end stores. Street vendors from Andhra Pradesh or Telangana put on sale of anklets and waistbands.
Ittar
This natural perfume used by Muslims and is a must during Ramzan.
Slippers
You will see pairs to sustain a whole population for the next one or two years…really 🙂 . The footwear available here might not be something not everyone will like but some are very in-expensive and can be different to ones you use normally.
